In August 2016 the government announced plans to unveil commemorative paving stones, to honour those awarded the Victoria Cross (VC) in WWI.
Private Horace Waller was awarded the VC for his actions carried out in April 1917, he was posthumously awarded the VC in June 1917. He attended Batley Grammar School from September 1009 to July 1915.
Along with members of 3 Rifles, Y Company (The Rifles), The Veterans Association, Army Cadet Force and members of Batley Grammar School Combined Cadet Force Led By Lt Col G Dawson, were asked to take part in the unveiling ceremony held at Dewsbury Remembrance Gardens.
Members of the CCF were asked to provide Ground Markers and a cadet to read Private Waller’s citation. (Cadet Lance Corporal Lewis Khan)
